When i got the call from an announcer of local radio station - Era.fm, i was excited and thrilled because she was interested to get her wedding pictured scrap! It took me almost a week to finally decided what kind of concept i should do for her as all of you know, i generally do not repeat my layouts. I must say i felt sooooo relieved and happy when i passed the complete album to her today..... and she like it! Nana, thank you for the opportunity and i'm excited that you really like my work.

I'm all excited after being approach by Dura and Lisa from Doodlebug about starting scrapbooking at their center. I must say as parents, Doodlebug has wide range of activities for kids and mothers. This is the place you want your kids to hang out with other children. The place are clean, nice, cozy and the activities that they have are really educational and fun.

As a starter, Doodlebug is organising an Open Day on 9 August 2009 from noon to 5pm. Lots of activities happening kids and you plus Scrappingglitz will be there to create an awareness program about Scrapbooking.

There will be plenty of activities for your kids like decorating cupcakes, coloring competition, art attack!, story book reading, sing a long session and let’s not forget games!games!games!

I was a little quiet...sorry about that...been very busy with lots of things back home. I know i've yet to list the latest new arrival ....this pregnancy has slow me down...haha.. But i promised that i will do it as soon as possible.

I'm back with some updates on SG upcoming plan.

As some of you may have known, that i've made it as a DT for a new baby in scrapbooking industry...Nikki Sivils. Yes, i heard you...we will be carrying their collections and we're expecting the shipment to be in a week time. We will be releasing the first 2 lines - My Sweet Cherry Pie & Victoria Street from her total of 6 collections. Here's some sneak peek of the lines. Also, We will be hosting a crop party soon and lots of goodies to be given away. Stay tune for more updates.

On Fathers Day, i was given the opportunity to produce a mini album for our local celebrity , Ms Nila Kurnia. She is the announcer for Sinar.fm - Astro local radio channel. I'm glad she like the album it was supposed to be a gift for her husband on Fathers Day. And i hope her husband like the gift! Thanks Nila for this wonderful opportunity.

Scrapbooking Bug Among Us

I love scrapbooking. I started scrapbooking about 2 years ago and i enjoyed ever since.

But once I tried it, I was completely hooked! So many of my friends tell me they just don’t get the whole scrapbooking craze. And my answer to them is, “then you’ve never scrapped a page. Get back to me when you do.” Cuz let’s face it… once you’ve scrapped one page, the scrapbooking bug is with you forever. And the only way to get rid of that itch is to just scratch it.

One other things that i really treasure is meeting other scrapbooker.....be it my local customers, my overseas customers or even my counterpart whereever they are.

Today, I had a great oppportunity meeting a talented scrapper who is also a mum , running a scrapping business in NSW, Australia. It was arranged by my dearest Lili and we all sat together chatting, exchange ideas, taking pictures and lunch!

She was here for a short vacation with her friend Joanne. Kelly sells Kaisercraft scrapbooking and craft products, called ‘From A Mothers Art’. She is also a fully trained and qualified scrapbooking counsellor. You can view here wonderful piece of art at her blog.

I'm actually very excited about BG latest collections. Both of them are lovely- and they're VERY different from each other. Wisteria is soothing in lovely shades of lilac, plum, periwinkle, cream, mint, toffee and sky. Lime Rickey is wild and rambunctious, with bright bold colors and patterns perfect for kids pages and mini books. It reminds me of their very popular Color Me Silly line from a few years back, but instead of the frogs, they have some funky birds that are really cute.

Throughout my journey with SG, i had a chance to meet with many talented scrapper ...one of them is Shahrul...she's probably started scrapping about a year ago but her passion for mini albums has grown tremendously and i'm always inspired with everything she does. I don't have a picture of her yet...but soon i will..hehe. Our new class was actually originally designed by her (her own version of gatefold album) based on her favourite movie...Pride & Prejudice and she call it Darcy Code! The Albums is full of quotes, picture and dialogues from the movie. This classes will be conducted as kit class with full set of instructions on how to create one. Paper Transformations

I did a layout transformation by using the latest SEI Bridgeport - Springside Varnish Paper. Springside from SEI's Bridgeport line is a spring day with flowers, butterflies and vines.The images are varnished and raised from the surface of the paper - incredible and fun to work with.
But i decided to use the back of the paper which is plain as my background. Lots of us as scrapper find it hard to scrap on a simple plain or cluttered paper like this. We're always ended up feeling messed up thinking hard where can we place the photos, embellishment and so on. Here's what i've done....maybe it will give u a little tips on how to use this paper better.

Hi everyone...

Just a quick update:

Kaisercraft latest collection has finally arrived at KL courier center and should reach SG home by Monday! I will try my very best to get everything uploaded by Wednesday, 22 April the latest.
Our very big shipment is schedule to reach SG by Thursday, 23 April the latest. I hope to be able to sort it out and put it up by the weekend. This shipment include latest collection from SEI, Bo Bunny, Porcelain from Basic Grey and replishment of Coredinations cardstock.
K & Co Que Sera Sera - this is schedule to arrive sometime in May/June.

I will try my very best to make all our product more affordable during this bad times. Even though economy are not great, that should not stop us from scrapping. Right??

Warm, vintage shades and prints are accented by soft colors and shapes. Brenda was on hand signing autographs at the latest CHA and when asked what her inspiration was as she designed the line, she stated with a smile, "Paris."

I am sorry for being away for sooooo long. I was busy taking care of my sick child and ended up being hospitalised. But we are all now well and fully recovered. And i finally lay my hands on my long due canvas and i would like to share with u. This is is really huge canvas. It is supposed to be a birthday gift for my brother in law. I am just sharing the sneak preview as i still need to fine tune a little bit more. I will share my final product soon.

New arrival is already on the way....i believe it will reach my doorstep any minute from now. Will update you all again.

I'm very glad that i'm feeling so much better lately...and very happy to be back here to serve my dearie customer. I would like to apologize for been missing in action...is very hard to gain strength with this pregnancy. Good news...I have ordered tons of new items and I am only half way done with the shipments....i know the last time i promised all of you...I'm so sorry ...all the things are sold out at the GE Mall Bazaar and also at home. The Bazaar was great....i had chance to meet new scrapper and customers. But i shall not forget my loyal customers who came to visit me. Thanks for that.

As of now i'm still waiting for the exact date when the new yummylicious items will arrive. I shall update you all soon.

It's been tough but...

Lots of things has been going around me and SG. It's been tough for the past one month due to my pregnancy but am slowly gaining back my strength and i am so looking forward for more activities and new stuff for SG.

First of all, We’d like to notify all our dear customers that Scrappingglitz is no longer available at The Choice effective yesterday, 4 February 2009 as we’re exploring other avenues for expansion.

We’d also like to thank the lovely people from the management of The Choice for their excellent service and assistance while we were based there.

We're now busy preparing for our first charity participation for this year.... this is a charity bazaar organised by Soroptimist International Club of Ampang. All the booth fee will be channeled to Pride Foundation. The bazaar will take place on 28 February - 1 March, 2009 at Great Eastern Mall. Do meet us there!

Also in conjunction of World Cancer Day, we will be working with SG buddies - Jules for sponsoring a canvas that will decorate one of the walls of the Oncology Unit at a major medical centre in Kuala Lumpur; something to heighten and brighten the moods of patients who visit there for treatments.

What else...yeah...the news that most of our customer been waiting for... YES we have new stuff and it should be available by Tuesday next week. Did i hear yippie????

And we will have more new stocks from CHA Winter 2009 in the next couple of weeks.

I have created this new gift set.... I can't seem to get enough of canvas and i decided to play with the smaller size ones. This is a mini photo frame. I dressed it up a bit with combo of few techniques....mixing utee and perfect pearls, created my own flower embellishment by sponging and inking with stamps. I added a die cut flourishes at the back of the canvas .

This canvas i made for myself as a reminder to me...it says...

I TRUST.... to way to know life ...is to love many things...

I decided to be a bit bold this time...playing with bright colors....adding a little touch of gold and black paint...and i seriously think it turns out incredibly great. I add lots of self made embellishment....i use pattern paper and wrap around a small piece of chipboard creating a 3D dimension in my piece of work. I was inspired by Chow Chow...she has used a mini canvas which i could not find anymore around town... Instead i decided to a thick chipboard to replace it.

I also use mixture of pattern paper, stamping techniques, usage of utee and i was also inspired by Scrapperlicious how she actually punch mini hole at the corner of picture which creates a new dimension to canvas. Giant Card

This is my first ever request for something like this...a customer had asked me to make a Giant Card for her Grandparents 55th Wedding Anniversary...wow...i find this is kinda a unique request. I tried blending the modern concept with a little Chinese touch in the card...i think it turns out lovely...and i must say this is a good choice of preserving this special moments...by using acid free products....i'm truly sure that her grandparents will be able to keep this for very long time. Thanks Chen!

World Aids Day - 1st December 2008

According to UNAIDS estimates, there are now 33.2 million people living with HIV, including 2.5 million children. During 2007 some 2.5 million people became newly infected with the virus.

Around half of all people who become infected with HIV do so before they are 25 and are killed by AIDS before they are 35.

Around 95% of people with HIV/AIDS live in developing nations. But HIV today is a threat to men, women and children on all continents around the world.

Started on 1st December 1988, World AIDS Day is about raising money, increasing awareness, fighting prejudice and improving education. World AIDS Day is important in reminding people that HIV has not gone away, and that there are many things still to be done.

DT Jessy has taken the lead to scrap a unique momentos ....as reminder for us about this Day. Look at how lovely she blends the Collage Press Paper and embellishment...

And in conjunction with World Aids Day...SG has decided to gives back to community again... this time we decided to look at Rumah Jaireh.

*Rumah Jaireh, which is located in Batu Arang was set up in 2005 to cater for the following needs:-

1) For all HIV + women, with or without children, rendered homeless or rejected
2) For HIV + children made homeless or rejected
3) Sex workers and female drug addicts
4) Women and children with special needs who cannot be taken in by other homes or institutions, for some reason or another

The home also serves as a halfway home till a suitable alternative / home can be found e.g. for unwed mothers. The home is open to all faiths and all races and will also serve as a halfway home until a suitable alternative or home can be found for these unfortunate people.

For that.... SG has decided to sponsor 5% of December Total Sale to them , hoping it will ease their burden...and we are also looking forward to hand over the unique momentos done by DT Jessy as our commitment to get involved and to raise some money for those people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.

Universal Children's Day

Universal Children's Day takes place on November 20 annually. First proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1954, it was established to encourage all countries to institute a day, firstly to promote mutual exchange and understanding among children and secondly to initiate action to benefit and promote the welfare of the world's children. It was also chosen as the day to celebrate childhood.

November 20 is also the anniversary of the day when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959. The Convention on the Rights of the Child was then signed on the same day in 1989, which has since been ratified by 191 states.

After the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted in 1989, the UN General Assembly recommended that all countries choose a day to promote children's welfare. Although observance of the day varies from country to country, the Government of Canada designated November 20th as National Child Day, to commemorate the day on which both the Declaration on the Rights of the Child (1959) and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) were adopted.

The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child addresses the rights of children and youth under the age of 18. It recognizes their basic human rights and gives them additional rights to protect them from harm. The Convention's 54 articles cover everything from a child's right to be free from exploitation, to the right to his or her own opinion and the right to education, health care, and economic opportunity.

The adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the creation of Universal Children's Day reflects the growing recognition that children are important and valued members of society, now and in the future. Universal Children's Day celebrates children just for being themselves. It reminds us that children need love and respect to grow to their full potential. It is a day to listen to children, to marvel at their uniqueness and all they have to offer.

A key objective of Universal Children's Day is to increase awareness of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Since its adoption by the United Nations, the Convention has been signed or ratified by more countries than any other international treaty. Over the past decade, the Convention has proven to be a valuable tool for promoting the rights of children everywhere around the world.

1.How would you describe your scrapbooking style?

I enjoy trying out new styles and trends, but always make sure to stay true to my own unique style. I love and focus on doing multi photos layouts as they represent the memories and has the "telling the story" elements. Depending on the look I am going for, my designs range from shabby chic to fun and vibrant. Techniques I use frequently include: inking, distressing, stamping, orginial scrapbook layouts, altered items, the use of other embellishments, ribbons and laces.

2. What inspires you?

Actually I'm always inspired by anything that is associated to scrapbooking! The photos, the lovely patterned papers, the beautiful embellishments, all the different wonderful techniques!

3. What about SG excites you and why do you enjoy using our products?

SG and I share a common aim which is to "preserve a lifetime of memories". Its because of this that i started this hobby in the 1st place. I want to capture and document every moment of my son's growing up journey. I also hope to make new fellow scrapbooker friends in SG!

We're finally back to SG and busy with loads of new things coming to our store...yes yes the new stuff...and more fun and exciting new activities in the forum and last but not least...our new DT. I will update you more in my next posting. But now I am more excited that one of locally produced magazines - My Child Malaysia - a parenting guide and comprehensive reference magazine has featured us in their latest edition. My Child Malaysia is distributed free to over 300 locations, including learning centres, pre-schools, clinics, fitness centres,pharmacies, libraries, bookstores and child-related outlets.

This bi-monthly city-based parenting magazine, intended for distribution in and around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor initially, covers health topics, every aspect of a child’s development up to the age of 14, women issues, as well as community issues. It also serves as a platform for views from the public on such topics, and a voice for support groups and others with the welfare of children close at heart.

The magazine aims to share interesting and essential information with parents, educators, as well as the general public. The magazine is a self-funded effort and advertising revenue will assist in ensuring that invaluableinformation can be consistently and effectively communicated and shared with our caring community.

Lantern Festival

IT was a Sunday night like no other. With the weather cooperating, although the haze somewhat compromised the view, many Malaysians took the opportunity to look up into the heavens and watch a magnificent phenomenon unfold. The moon was slowly disappearing and at 9.02pm, it totally disappeared from the sky over the peninsular. And the total eclipse only ended at 10.49. And those watching that night will not be around when it next happens, which is 1,000 years from now.

On such a historic night, what were we thinking of? Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon? Or Wu Gang the woodcutter? Or perhaps Chang-Er. Maybe some were thinking of a Werewolf in London.

The moon definitely spins countless legends throughout the ages. And here in Malaysia, and elsewhere in the world where there is a Chinese population, we celebrate the Mooncake Festival. Never mind the scientific and astronomical and astrological stuff, for come the 15th day of the Eight Lunar Month in the Chinese calendar, children still come out to play with lanterns and mooncakes are devoured and exchanged. Much of the cultural significance has disappeared but it is still a day to be remembered.

WHILE its origin is based on a historical event, the annual Mooncake Festival is also associated with fascinating lunar legends and myths. MAJORIE CHIEW finds that though man has long conquered the moon, old traditions die hard.

THE Mooncake Festival, also known as Mid-Autumn Festival, falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month which is Sept 24 this year. Historically, it was a harvest festival for farmers but traditionally, womenfolk worshipped Chang-Er, the moon goddess.

Mooncakes are also known as "reunion cakes" as family members gather to partake of the sweet confectionery.Mooncakes are eaten throughout the month before the actual festival day. They make meaningful gifts for kith and kin.

In the evenings, children gleefully carry lanterns of all shapes and sizes. The bearing of lanterns and the origin of mooncakes date back to a 14th century revolt by the Chinese against the Mongols.

In 1376, the Chinese overthrew the Yuan (Mongol) dynasty (1280-1376) in an uprising brilliantly hatched by lantern-bearing messengers who delivered mooncakes with hidden messages.

Legend has it that the time and place of the revolution were concealed in the mooncakes sent to friends and relatives. The midnight massacre of the Mongols was led by Liu Bowen.
Today, altars are set up outside the house facing the full moon on the night of the festival. The "harvest moon" is at its brightest and roundest this time of the year.

Offerings of mooncakes, mini yams and water caltrops are laid out for Chang-Er, also known as the Moon Lady. Round fruits are offered as the shape symbolises the fullness of the moon and family harmony.

Some women peel pomelos and mini yams in the belief that they will have a flawless complexion. Others pray to the moon goddess hoping to be blessed with good husbands.
The classic tale of Chang-Er, the beautiful moon goddess, is associated with the Mooncake Festival. Pictures of her in a flowy gown floating to the moon commonly adorn mooncake boxes.

Folklore has it that she was married to the divine archer Hou Yi, who shot nine out of 10 suns that were causing havoc. For his deed, the Queen Mother of the West gave him the elixir of life. Chang-Er stole her husband's potion of immortality, drank it and found herself floating to the moon. There she lives out her days in the cold lonely moon palace with a furry rabbit for companion.

A slightly different version says that Hou Yi was a tyrannical ruler. Chang-Er drank the magic potion to prevent him from becoming immortal.

Another myth tells of woodcutter Wu Gang who was banished to the moon and became Chang-Er's friend and servant. The Jade Emperor punished Wu Gang by ordering him to cut down a cassia tree. It was a task that could never be completed as the tree is immortal and would grow back each time it is felled.

Moon worship has its roots in China's Sung (960-1127), Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, when commoners and emperors alike observed the practice.
Imperial chefs made mooncakes over a metre in diameter with designs of the moon goddess, the moon palace and cassia tree. Ordinary mooncakes were several centimetres in diameter.

During the Qing dynasty, mooncakes were renamed "moonflowers". In Mandarin, the word yuebing for mooncakes sounds like "monthly sickness" (or menstruation). The Empress Dowager Ci Xi staged rituals for an elaborate moon festival lasting from the 13th through the 17th day of the eighth lunar month.

Some Chinese families today still stay up late to observe the occasion eating mooncakes, sipping tea and gazing at the beautiful moon. It is regarded the perfect moment if someone catches the moon's reflection in the centre of his or her teacup.

Dispelling the myths

People talk about products and services. The stuff they use every day and what they buy or plan to buy or what they’ve already bought. Some people are talking about me and what I’m selling right now. Which is a good thing, then I know for sure ScrappingGlitz’s presence is felt.

But I don’t really appreciate the misinformed talk…you know, I started this business from scratch and it involved lots of passion and hard work, so it’s disheartening to listen to misconceptions on the way business is run at ScrappingGlitz.

Like it or not, I’ve only two choices: let people talk about SG, spread rumors, and get it wrong; or clarify things and make it work for me.

So here I am clarifying, by clearing up some misinformation that’s been circulating of late. Here are some questions you may want answered…

Is it true that ScrappingGlitz’ postal charges are higher compared to other online scrap stores?

Yes and no! I’m wishing really hard that people wouldn’t compare local postal delivery with the service of a courier company, it’s like comparing an apple to an orange. I chose more reliable courier company as I have more control over timelines and delivery quality to customers.

Is it true that ScrappingGlitz doesn’t have a diversed range of products?

Brace yourselves fellow scrappers, when I say that this is indeed true!!! I hate the word ‘kiasu’. So we don’t always bring in the same products as other stores neither do we have the complete and absolute range. SG strives its very best to be uniquely diversed. We are not wannabes as we respect our fellow online scrapper stores out there. We are not out to compete directly by selling the same products.

SG products are different in a sense that for a two month old business, we already have in our store a whopping 29 brands! If that isn’t impressive enough, we bring in new stock on a weekly basis and we’re always on the lookout for fresh new products.

And we would never resort to such act of tarnishing their reputation or badmouthing them since we all know our businesses stem from our passion and love for the art of scrapping.

At SG, we have class and style. We embrace our strengths and focus on what we can offer. We’re hoping we will win the respect of those we’re dealing with, the prospects that we’re talking to and become a winner in the eyes of everyone that we deal with.

And of course, we LOVE the fact that we’re not simply out to make quick big bucks, but to indulge in our passion and fraternise with fellow hobbyists. It’s fun to be able to share the same passion on a larger scale.

So here’s what we’re going to do.We’ll continue running our business in an honest, friendly and ethical manner and let our customers decide who they want to do business with.

We’re also very open to customer suggestions so if you think our store should have a certain something, I’d be delighted if you told me exactly what you’d like to see up for grabs at SG.
